Aram Khachaturian music performed at a concert marking the Bulgarian EU Presidency
A concert of classical music named “Europe to Music” was performed on Sunday in Sofia in the scope of events marking the beginning of the Bulgarian Presidency in the EU.
The concert held under the high patronage of Ekaterina Zakharieva, Deputy PM and Foreign Minister of Bulgaria, featured European classical music with renowned Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian’s Sabre Dance from the Gayane Ballet among them.
The music performed by the Sofia Philharmonic was accompanied by the multimedia show displayed on the screens on stage, depicting monuments of Armenia’s historical and cultural heritage and the abundance of the Armenian landscape.
Through the slogan “Music is a unifying force” the organizers of the concert highlighted the call for the preservation of the European cultural heritage and its passing on to future generations as well as accentuate in that the role and the mission of the people living in the European continent.
It is notable, that the music by the Armenian composer was the only work from the region included in the program of the concert.
To note, Bulgaria took over the six-month rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union(EU) on January 1. It's the first time Sofia held the post since it joined the EU in 2007.
