Bill allowing to form unified route network passes Armenian parliament’s first reading
The Armenian National Assembly adopted in the first reading on Tuesday the draft law on making amendments in the RA Law on Motor Transport, which allows to establish a unified route network in the country.
The bill received a total of 59 votes in favour and 7 votes against. 27 MPs abstained.
Ahead of the voting, Yelk faction member Aram Sargsyan announced his party’s intention to vote against the bill citing the serious corruption risks emerging from the measure.
Tsarukyan faction MP Naira Zohrabyan in her turn noted the legislative initiative is rather risky given the fact the transport fares might increase in Armenia if the sphere is controlled by a single operator. “We will abstain in this stage submitting our proposals. If rejected, we will generally oppose this initiative,” she said.
