Tigran Mansurian’s ‘Requiem’ wins Classical Music Awards
Renowned Armenian composer Tigran Mansurian has won the 2018 International Classical Music Award in the Contemporary music category for his ‘Requiem’.
The Awards were held in Luxembourg on 18-20 January.
To remind, Mansurian’s ‘Requiem’, which is dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Gencode, is also nominated for the 60th Grammy Awards scheduled for January 28, 2018 in New York.
The composition is nominated in two categories – Best Choral Performance and Best Contemporary Classical Composition.
Mansurian’s ‘Requiem’ is dedicated to the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims. Co-commissioned by the Munich Chamber Orchestra and the RIAS Choir Berlin, the composition is a combination of ancient Armenian religious and secular music with the Latin Requiem text.
