Armenia does everything to maintain military balance, foreign minister says
Armenia is doing its best to maintain the military balance in the region using, among other things, the opportunities stemming from the country’s strategic alliance with Russia, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said at today’s news conference.
The official noted it is well known why Azerbaijan manipulates the matter of the Russian arms supplies to the country with special emphasis.
“In 2010 the so-called fifth protocol was signed as part of the document which related to the deployment of the Russian military base in the territory of Armenia. That protocol also make some amendments in the main document envisaging that with the Armenian Armed Forces Russia is committed to assume the role of ensuring our security and the obligation to provide Armenia with modern weapons and armaments,” the minister said.
According to Mr Nalbandian, Russia evidently plays an important role in ensuring regional security not only as a member state of the OSCE Minsk Group, but also as an important reginal factor.
