Cabinet approves new procedures and conditions for awarding state awards and conferring honorary titles
The Government of Armenia approved the draft legislation on making amendments and supplements to the RA Law "On State Awards and Honorary Titles." The legislative initiative is developed to correspond with the requirements of the constitutional reforms adopted in the 2015 referendum.
The draft document establishes the procedures and conditions for awarding state awards and conferring honorary titles of the Republic of Armenia, the requirements for submitting motions to award state awards as well as the list of officials with the competence for submitting a motion to award state awards and honorary titles.
Previous provisions on enabling the president of the country to award state awards, confer honorary titles are removed. The descriptions and indications on state awards are approved as well.
To note, Armenia will transfer to the parliamentary system of government in April. As envisaged by the new constitution adopted in referendum held in 2015, the president will take on largely ceremonial roles, while the real executive power will come in the hands of the prime minister.
