Armenian lawmakers on working visit to Artsakh
Delegation of the Chairpersons of the Standing Committees and factions of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia are in Artsakh on a working visit.
In the morning of February 3, within the framework of the visit, MPs accompanied by the Vice President of the Artsakh National Assembly Vahram Balayan, visited the Stepanakert memorial and put flowers to the tombs of the perished soldiers. Then a meeting of the parliamentarians of the two republics in an enlarged format was held in the Big Hall of the National Assembly.
Welcoming those present, NA President Ashot Ghoulyan attached importance to the improvement of the relations of the Artsakh Parliament with the Parliament of the Republic of Armenia, regular meetings of the commission and the sittings of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee. In that context the NA President introduced the contacts of the two parliaments in 2017, which were mainly aimed at organizing active work with parliaments of different countries, presentation of the essence of the Karabakh conflict and international recognition of Artsakh.
"I am confident that in 2018, we will continue to act with the same enthusiasm, using our successful experience to expand parliamentary diplomacy capabilities," said Ashot Ghoulyan.
Expressing gratitude for the reception, Head of the RPA faction Vahram Baghdasaryan emphasized that they should also work for the activation of the ties between the parliaments of the two republics and the discussion of sectoral issues. Then the RPA faction leader presented the RA NA President Ara Babloyan's decree on awarding the Head of the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh, Ashot Ghoulyan, with a medal of honor on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Karabakh Movement for a significant contribution to the strengthening of inter-parliamentary friendly ties.
Chairmen of the RA NA Standing Committees and factions' representatives made speeches presented a number of sectoral issues information on discussions in the Armenian Parliament, some of which are scheduled to be discussed in the second half of the day in the relevant committees with the RA partners.
On the first day of the working visit, the MPs visited the Tumo Center for Creative Technologies in Stepanakert.
The delegation also plans to meet with Artsakh Republic President Bako Sahakyan, State Minister Araik Harutunyan and Defense Minister Levon Mnatsakanyan.
