Serj Tankian unveils the digital platform of the finalists for his $5,000 music challenge
World-famous rock singer, lead vocalist of System of a Down Serj Tankian unveiled Wednesday 7NotesExperiment.com, an open digital platform showcasing hundreds of compositions spanning 60 countries and all genres. But the very different selections have one thing in common. They all begin with the same 7 notes.
The 7 Notes Experiment was created by Creative Armenia, an arts foundation and production company based in Yerevan and Los Angeles. The challenge went viral after it was first unveiled in

Billed as a "cultural experiment," the new digital platform signifies the last phase of Serj Tankian's challenge. From thousands of submissions, 500 were selected to take part in 7NotesExperiment.com. Of those, 100 are being featured. And of these 100, only 1 will win the $5,000 prize, to be awarded sometime this month.
The deciding jury includes System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian; Capital Cities singer-songwriter Sebu Simonian; jazz phenom and composer Tigran Hamasyan; Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Hayrapetyan; Professor and Founding Dean of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, Judith Smith; and the iconic rock star and challenger himself - Serj Tankian.
