Strong winds, storms cause 110 million drams in damages to Armenia last year
An estimated number of 14,373 emergencies were reported in Armenia in 2017, as a result of which 356 people died and another 10,687 suffered injuries of different levels of gravity, the statistics show.
According to the data provided to Panorama.am by the National Statistical Service (NSS), 2,190 people were temporarily evacuated last year due to emergency cases.
Road traffic accidents claimed 279 lives in 2017, while 6 people were killed in residential building explosion and 4 others – in residential building collapse. Fires caused 15 fatalities last year, with two injured reported in transportation means blast.
The NSS data said strong winds, storms and hurricanes caused an estimated 110 million 100 thousand drams in damages to the country last year. Hailstorms caused 8 million drams in losses in the same period, frostbite in vegetative stage – over 120 million drams, with more than 1 billion drams in damages caused by fires.
