Armenia MFA: Absence of int’l community’s adequate reaction to Azeri president’s statements leads to fresh threats from Baku
Spokesman of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tigran Balayan slammed the threats of use of force made by Azeri Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov, adding the silence of the international community on the recent statements by Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev voicing territorial claims against Armenia has led to fresh threats from Baku.
“Absence of adequate reaction of international community after Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev voiced territorial claims towards Armenia, encouraged [Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir] Hasanov to reiterate the threat of use of force,” Balayan wrote on Twitter, attaching Azeri media reports over Hasanov’s statement.
At a Feb. 19 meeting with the delegation led by EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar, the Azeri defense minister said that ‘a war may break out at any time’.
