Armenia's anti-smoking campaign unveils its new advert
A new advert warning of the dangers of smoking for passive smokers was unveiled today by Armenia's health authorities aimed to serve as the official poster of the government anti-smoking campaign..
The move comes ahead of the upcoming parliamentary debates of the proposed bill, banning tobacco products from public spaces and establishing high fines for offenders.
During the presentation of short animation, the Head of the Healthcare National Center at the ministry Aleksandr Bazarchyan noted that the advert was widely backed by the public and received mostly positive reactions on social media platforms.
Designed by the Doping Creative Adverstising, the short animation focuses on the adverse effects of passive smoking in public spaces.
In Armenia, more than 27,9 percent of the population are smokers, while 72,1 percent suffer from secondhand smoke in public spaces, according to the health ministry. Considering the people's awareness about the road signs, the new advert shows the no entry sign featuring a cigarette with its orange filter tip and the rest of the cigarette to represent the proportion of country's smoker and non-smoker population. "To be a passive smoke or an active non-smoke. It remains up to you," reads the advert.
It is noted the that anti-smoking poster was awarded last November during the Yerevan Outdoor Advertising Festival.
