Lack of justice in the eyes of public consciousness standing in the way of Armenia’s progress – official
Head of the Ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) faction at the National Assembly Vahram Baghdasaryan introduced the candidate for the post a member of the Supreme Judicial Council at today’s parliamentary session.
Citing the Constitution, the NA Rules of Procedure Law and the Judicial Code, he said that the RPA and ARF-D factions nominate the candidacy of Gagik Harutyunyan for the post in a five-year term.
In a speech at the parliament, Harutyunyan, who is the Chairman of the Constitutional Code, noted he held office in the National Assembly 37 years ago and addressed the parliament for the last time 20 years ago.
The cited the conclusions of the studies carried out by the experts in the judiciary.
“The judicial power in general still lacks the necessary and satisfactory functionality, which is the main reason behind the public confidence deficit in this branch of power. In addition, the judiciary has no essential role in restraining and countering the other wings of power,” Harutyunyan stressed.
He promised that if elected a member of the Supreme Judicial Council, he and his colleagues will try their best to ensure the independence of judges and, meantime, their equality before the law.
“The thing is the lack of justice in the eyes of public consciousness has become a factor standing in the way of the country’s progress. It has been voiced on numerous occasions from this tribune,” he stressed.
If elected, Gagik Harutyunyan promised to spare no effort to create an independent and public trust-based judicial power in Armenia.
