Armen Sarkissian to take office on April 9 – parliament speaker
President-elect Armen Sarkissian will be sworn in at a special session of the National Assembly (NA) on April 9, Speaker Ara Babloyan said, congratulating Sarkissian on being elected to the post.
Mr Babloyan reminded that the President of Armenia shall take office at a special NA session, which is convened on the day the incumbent president’s term in office expires under the Constitution.
The parliament speaker also informed the procedure for holding a special session will be set upon the proposal of the NA Speaker and with the decision of the Council.
The parliament voted on Friday to elect Armen Sarkissian as the fourth President of Armenia. 90 MPs voted in favour of Sarkissian, 10 voted against him, with one bullet paper declared invalid.
