President-elect continues receiving congratulations
Armenian President-elect Armen Sargsyan continues to receive congratulations on his election as the fourth President of Armenia. As the press office of the President-elect reports, congratulatory letters were received from the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Xi Jinping,
the President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos, the Chairman of the Munich Security Conference Wolfgang Ischinger.
According to the source, Sargsyan received congratulations from executives of international organizations, state and public figures, representatives of the clergy, individuals.
Armen Sargsyan, who candidacy was nominated by the ruling Republican Party, was backed by 90 lawmakers during the vote held in the parliament session on March 2.
President-elect Armen Sargsyan will be sworn in at a special session of the National Assembly on April 9, the date when Armenia will transfer to the parliamentary system of government, according to the new constitution adopted in referendum held in in 2015. Under the amended constitution the president holds mostly a ceremonial role and is elected for a seven-year term.
