Serzh Sargsyan to attend the opening of the Candidates Chess Tournament
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan will pay working visit to Germany today to attend the official ceremony of opening the Candidates Chess Tournament to be held in Berlin on March 10-28, 2018. As an honored guest of the event, President Sargsyan will make the first symbolic move in the game on March 10, press department at the President's Office reported.
Eight top grandmasters of the world, including the winner of the World Cup Levon Aronian (Armenia), Fabiano Caruana (USA), Wesley So (USA), Sergey Karjakin (Russia), Ding Liren (China), Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan), Alexander Grischuk (Russia), Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) are qualified to play in the competition.
The Candidates Tournament 2018 is an eight-player double round-robin chess tournament. The winner earns the right to challenge the defending world champion, Magnus Carlsen of Norway in the World Chess Championship 2018.
