Air pollution exceeds safety limits in four Armenian cities
Air pollution levels in four Armenian cities - Gyumri, Hrazdan, Alaverdi, and Ararat exceeds the limits of air-quality standards, according to the data, released by Armenia's National Statistical Service. According to the source, the air pollution levels exceed the acceptable norm in Gyumri by 2.2 times, 1.8 times in Alaverdi, 1.7 times in Hrazdan, and 1.2 times in Ararat.
In capital Yerevan, all the air pollutants are reported within the accepted norms.
To note, in 2017, quality monitoring of the atmospheric air pollution of the republic was carried out at 16 observation stations, located throughout the country. In order to determine the content of pollutants - - dust, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide as well as ground-level ozone - 17 130 air samples and 19 364 passive air samples were taken.
In general, 330, 814 and 122, 380 air measurements were done through the automatic stations located respectively in Yerevan and Alaverdi to determine the level of air pollutants.
