Cardiovascular disease risks increase in spring, doctor says
Spring brings with it not only positive emotions, but also a renewed focus on cardiovascular disease (CVD) – diseases of the heart and the blood vessels. In particular, the incidence of heart diseases increases by 30-40 percent in spring months, an Armenian doctor told a news conference on Saturday.
According to cardiologist Marine Ordyan, the resistance of human body significantly reduces during winter, resulting in heightened risk of cardiovascular disease already in spring.
“Weather changes can cause blood vessels to tighten, which can eventually trigger strokes and apoplexy. In recent period, the number of patients diagnosed with such problems have considerably grown,” the doctor said. “To boost the body’s resistance it is necessary to consume more fruit and vegetable, to reduce the consumption of fatty foods and quit smoking. In addition to this, many cardiologists worldwide recommend people suffering from CVD to interact with people with positive aura.”
Marine Ordyan underlined cardiovascular disease develops in men over 40 years of age, while in women – over 50 years of age.
Psychologist Lilit Khachatryan, in attendance of the conference, said in her turn that many people can experience stress and depression in early spring.
“To avoid the irrelevant stress, it is necessary to actively interact with the surroundings, mother nature and to stop negative thoughts. In spring, people generally have positive expectations, and to further boost the mood, it is recommended to pay guest visits, go for shopping, visit fitness clubs and beauty salons,” she said, stating negative thinking and passive lifestyle naturally worsen the situation.
