Candidates Tournament: Aronian, Mamedyarov set up round 9 clash
Armenian GM Levon Aronian is set to face Shakhriyar Mamedyarov of Azerbaijan at round 9 of FIDE Candidates Tournament 2018 underway in Berlin, Germany.
The Armenian chess star drew his game against Chinese Ding Liren at round 8 of the tournament, the Chess Federation of Armenia told Panorama.am. Mamedyarov-Karjakin and So-Caruana games were also drawn at the round.
After eight rounds, Fabiano Caruana is the sole leader of the tournament with 5.5 points. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov comes the second with 5 points, followed by Alexander Grischuk, who has collected 4.5 points.
GM Aronian and Wesley So share the 7-8 spots with 2.5 points apiece.
