Luxemburg FM: Armenia on the right track in EU visa liberalization issue
The European Union runs a step-by-step policy in the visa liberalization issue, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn told a news conference on March 27, citing the examples of the Balkan states, as well as Ukraine.
Mr Asselborn stated Armenia is on the right path, that will eventually lead the country to the EU visa liberalization. He added Luxembourg has always had a positive attitude towards those people who want to visit the EU states.
“We had some grounded concerns regarding the Balkan countries, when people sought international protection through visas. We have also concluded a contract on readmission,” he said. “I want to state once again that Armenia is on the right track, I think the minister well understands that such issues are not settled overnight. However the EU is providing support, and we will eventually come to that end.”
The top official of Luxembourg also refrained from pointing out a deadline, adding it also depends on the European Commission, which is to find a relevant solution for all the beneficiary countries.
Jean Asselborn gave his strong assurance Armenia can rely on Luxembourg, which will do its best to push forward the issue.
