Grenke Chess Classic: Aronian beats Azerbaijani opponent
Armenian GM Levon Aronian scored the full point against Arkadij Naiditsch of Azerbaijan at Round 2 of the Grenke Chess Classic 2018 underway in Germany.
Aronian played the 5.Nge2 sideline against the King’s Indian, which worked out pretty well in this game. He got an advantage on the queenside, while king wasn’t less safe than Black’s. It looks like Black was already in trouble around move 25, Chess.com reports.
Nikita Vitiugov continues to lead the Grenke Chess Classic in Karlsruhe after beating Georg Meier in the second round. Magnus Carlsen and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave also won their games of the round.
Having collected 1,5 points, the Armenian chess star is sharing the 2-4 spots with Carlsen and Vachier-Lagrave. He will face Viswanathan Anand at Round 3.
The Grenke Chess Classic is a 10-player round robin held in Karlsruhe (rounds 1-3) and Baden-Baden (rounds 4-9), Germany, The time control is 100 minutes for 40 moves, then 50 minutes for 20 moves and then 15 minutes to finish the game, with a 30-second increment from move 1. Draw offers before move 40 are not allowed.
