Ambassador Minasyan speaks of the symbol of Saint Gregory of Narek statue consecration
The unveiling ceremony of the statue of Saint Gregory of Narek will take place today in the Vatican Gardens. In an interview with the Vatican News, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the Holy See has described the installment of the statue of Doctor of the Ecumenical Church, Saint Gregory of Narek in Vatican as "a sign of friendship."
"The art thus transfers a message of brotherhood that can unite the churches," the Ambassador has told the official Holy See national broadcaster.
To note, the unveiling ceremony will be attended by President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, His Holiness Pope Francis. high-ranking officials.
The Pope declared St. Gregory of Narek, 10th century prominent Armenian poet, monk, philosopher and theologian, as a Doctor of the Universal Church in Feb. 2015 during the Mass in St. Peter's Basilica dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
During the 2016 visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to Armenia, President Serzh Sargsyan presented him a bronze statuette of the Saint Gregory of Narek as a symbolic meaning for the visit of Pope Francis to the first Christian Nation. While presenting the souvenir, President Sargsyan wished to see the original statue in Vatican in the future that was approved by the Pope.
