President-elect Armen Sargsyan relieved of post as ambassador
President Serzh Sargsyan of Armenia signed a decree on Thursday to relieve President-elect Armen Sargsyan from the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and to Ireland.
On 2 March the Armenian National Assembly voted 90 to 10 to elect Armen Sargsyan as the country’s fourth President. He will be sworn in at a special session of the parliament on April 9.
To note, Armenia will switch to the parliamentary system of government in April, according to the new constitution adopted in referendum in 2015. The president will have mostly ceremonial role, with the real executive power vested in the prime minister.
