Armenia closely following developments in Russian-Turkish relations – deputy FM
Armenia is closely following the developments in the Russian-Turkish relations, Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan told reporters after today’s Cabinet meeting, commenting on the recent Russian-Turkish rapprochement, including President Vladimir Putin's visit to Turkey.
“Every country acts upon their own interests. In this case the interests of Russia and Turkey tend to coincide, and we must take it into account and closely follow it,” the Armenian official said.
Asked how those developments will influence Armenia in terms of national security, Kocharyan urged not to rush to make any conclusions, citing the case when after a similar rapprochement Turkey “stabbed Russia in the back” by downing a Russian fighter jet. “So this a process of contradictions and moments of rapprochement. We naturally follow them and draw conclusions,” he said.
