Police demand opposition MP to end rally
The Police of Armenia have issued a statement addressed to opposition MP Nikol Pashinyan, promising to disperse the rally led by him in downtown Yerevan using "force and special measures".
Voicing concerns over the disruption of public order, the Police demanded the opposition to terminate the demonstration.
"All the warnings, demands and restrictive actions by the Police are no longer effective, thus guided by Article 33 of the law 'On Freedom of Assemblies', the Police demand you to end the rally.
"In case of your absence in the place of rally or your failure to fulfil the Police order within reasonable timeframes, the Police will disperse the rally, using force and special measures," reads the statement.
A crowd of protesters led by MP Pashinyan have been demonstrating in Yerevan since April 13, boycotting the ruling Republican Party of Armenia's decision to nominate Serzh Sargsyan as the next prime minister of Armenia.
