Opposition rally: Day 6
Demonstrators led by Armenian MP Nikol Pashinyan, the leader of the opposition Civil Contract party, gathered again at the France Square in downtown Yerevan as mass protests go into a sixth day on Wednesday, boycotting former president Serzh Sargsyan’s "third term in office as prime minister".
“After yesterday’s dramatic events, I believe nothing can stop us and our victory is inevitable," Pashinyan, said.
He announced that the protesters will continue to blockade the entrances of government buildings and close off several main roads in the capital, adding “the creation of a revolutionary committee is under discussion”.
The opposition leader also urged police officers to immediately release the activists detained yesterday.
The protesters headed to Baghramyan Avenue to blockade Baghramyan 26, the prime minister’s residence. Subsequently, the demonstrators headed to the Baghramyan-Proshyan intersection, where Pashinyan offered his apologies to the drivers and urged for blocking the road.
Thousands of opposition supporters have been rallying since April 13, marching through the centre of Yerevan, blocking traffic and staging sit-ins outside government buildings.
