The Yerevan Police are clarifying the number of detained opposition activists from the France Square in downtown Yerevan, Edgar Janoyan, Head of the Analytics, Information and Media Relations Department of the Police, told Panorama.am.
The official promised to provide further information on the numbers of detained citizens soon.
Some activists have been taken to different police departments this morning as mass demonstrations led by opposition MP Nikol Pashinyan go into a sixth day on Wednesday, protesting Serzh Sargsyan’s nomination and election as the country’s prime minister.
Earlier MP Pashinyan, the leader of “My Step” initiative, said he had been promised that all the detained protesters would be released in a short period of time. “I received a promise that all the detainees will be released within the shortest time possible,” he said.
