Yerevan protests: Ombudsman’s staff continues visits to police divisions
At the instruction of Armenia’s Human Rights Defender (HRD), the rapid reaction groups of the Ombudsman’s Office have visited the Central, Arabkir, Shengavit and Nor Nork divisions of the Yerevan Police as of Friday morning over the calls on detention of some protesters.
Special attention is paid to the reasons behind the apprehension of opposition activists, as well as the attitude towards the detainees, the guarantees for the right to legal aid and other rights. The records are checked, and private conversations are held, the office said in a statement.
The HRD’s Office also informs that from the very beginning of Yerevan protests an emergency schedule has been set up in the capital, working groups have been created, which, based on their professional direction, carry out round-the-clock monitoring of the demonstrations, conduct visits related to the facts of isolation of protesters by police, as well as monitor media publications and social networks.
