Police detain 16 activists as anti-government protests resume in Armenia’s capital
Some 16 citizens have been taken to different police departments in Yerevan, Armenia’s capital, as of 9 a.m. on Friday, as anti-government protests go into an eight day.
Among the detainees is David Sanasaryan, one of the organizers of the opposition campaign, the Information and Public Relations Department of the Armenian Police told Panorama.am.
Thousands of opposition supporters led by Armenian MP Nikol Pashinyan, the leader of the opposition Civil Contract party, have been rallying since April 13, marching through the main streets in Yerevan, blocking traffic and state institutions and staging sit-ins outside government buildings to protest against ex-president Serzh Sargsyan’s nomination and election as the country’s prime minister.
