Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan's statement on political situation in Armenia
Armenia's Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan has issued a statement on the political situation in Armenia. The statement posted on the official website of the Prime Minister reads:
"Over the past week number of demonstrations and marches took place in capital Yerevan. Every citizen of our country has the right for holding peaceful demonstrations and marches. The authorities have always respected that right and will do so.
Regretfully, those public gatherings often cross the lines set by the law, taking improper and anarchic forms, which is continuously voiced in the numerous statements of the Police. The ongoing developments are full of unpredictable consequences, endanger the public order and harm the complex and subtle harmony of the Armenian public.
Each of us must remember that, besides him, no less proud Armenian citizens are living, studying, working and resting in the country. The harmony of our society should be based on solidarity and tolerance.
I am deeply concerned by the domestic political developments. In order to avoid irreparable losses, I call on MP Nikol Pashinyan to sit around the table of political dialogue and negotiations. This must be done immediately.
I am confident all the political forces of the country can contribute to launching such a dialogue adequate to the situation at hand.”
