I can see a love in your eyes - Serj Tankian addresses the youth in Yerevan rallies
System of A Down vocalist Serj Tankian has recorded a video entitled "Statement On Armenia's Peaceful Resistance," addressing the youth participating in the protests and rallies underway in Armenia these days.
The footage posted on Tankian's YouTube channel, says: "I want to congratulate you for so far holding one of the most successful civil disobedience campaigns in all of Armenian history. This movement is authentic and completely yours and should remain so untainted by politics and any other concerns. You should know that anyone in the Diaspora is behind you, even though in organizations that oppose your efforts. We are taken back by your eloquence, peacefulness, and inclusiveness. I can see a love in your eyes and in your hearts and smiles on your faces, like I did when we played in 2015 with System Of A Down from the stage. I see those in the protests This is a unique thing for Armenia. This a new cultural revolution and that is the true revolution in Armenia today," Tankian says.
Tankian also comes up with number of recommendations, advising the peaceful protesters "to stay clear of color revolution terminology which, as the singer believes, is generally associated with East-West struggles, while the Armenian movement is merely for justice and progressive change. Tankian next suggests making "concrete demands" specifically demanding PM Sargsyan's resignation from the prime minister's post and also from the post of the chairman of the ruling party. He also suggests coming up with packages of reforms to handle "all of the injustices in Armenia, from corruption to environmental degradation"
