Student protests kick off in Armenia’s capital
Dozens of students from Yerevan State University walked out of classes on Monday morning to stage a protest against ex-President Serzh Sargsyan’s election as the country’s Prime Minister.
They started a march, chanting the slogan, “Free, independent student!”, with students of other universities joining the protesters.
The students of Economics, Agrarian, Russian-Armenian (Slavonic), French, Pedagogical, American Universities, as well as Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences have also gone on strike.
Separately, the Yerevan State Medical University students have launched a strike action wearing their medical uniforms.
The protesting students will continue marching in front of other universities to have their students join them as well.
Moments ago, the participants of the 2016 April war also started a march from the Liberty Square in downtown Yerevan, in participation of Artsakh war veterans and parents of the April war victims.
Since April 13, Armenia's capital has been hit by mass public protests against Sargsyan’s nomination and election as Prime Minister by the parliament.
