Protest march kicks off from Yerevan’s Republic Square
A new round of protest actions kicked off in Yerevan, Armenia’s capital, on Wednesday, 25 April.
The protest march of large numbers of opposition supporters led by MP Nikol Pashinyan, the leader of “My Step” initiative, kicked off on Wednesday morning from the Republic Square in downtown Yerevan to protest against the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).
Many students of Yerevan State Medical University and other educational institutions have joined the protesters who are now heading towards the office of the Republican Party at Melik Adamyan Street, where the police have deployed large numbers of forces.
Earlier on Wednesday the opposition leader addressed a video message livestreamed on Facebook, calling on people to continue massive protests, including blocking main streets and avenues in Yerevan.
MP Pashinyan voiced his resentment against acting Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan’s Tuesday statement cancelling the scheduled talks with him, including plans for holding snap parliamentary elections.
He noted they can actively boycott those elections by blocking polling stations, thus preventing the ruling Republican Party from remaining in power.
