Breaking: RPA will not nominate a candidate for Prime Minister
The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) that holds majority in the country’s National Assembly will not nominate a candidate for the post of the Prime Minister, Eduard Sharmazanov, the spokesperson of RPA announced at a briefing on Saturday.
In Sharmazanov words, the decision is made in order to avoid confrontation.
As Sharmazanov informed the decision was made at the National Assembly during the meeting of RPA fraction members with the Chairman of the party Serzh Sargsyan and first Vice Chairman Karen Karapetyan.
“The agenda contained a single issue – the inter-political situation in Armenia and RPA’s participation in the MAY 1 election of the Prime Minister. Considering the inter-political situation in the country, RPA has always noted that the state interest, the security of Armenia and Artsakh are of paramount significance,” Sharmazanov stressed, adding: “Guided by those challenges and priorities, RPA decided the fraction will not nominate its own candidate for the post of the Prime Minister. Secondly, the parliamentary fraction will discuss the programs of all candidates and will announce its decision before the vote.”
