Yelk opposition faction nominates Pashinyan for PM
Anti-government protest leader Nikol Pashinyan, who heads the opposition Yelk (Way Out) faction in the parliament, has been nominated as the faction’s candidate for the next prime minister at today’s meeting with the bloc’s members.
“Yelk faction decided to put forward the people’s candidate for the position of Armenia’s prime minister,” Civil Contract party member Vahagn Hovakimyan said in a post on Facebook.
Pashinyan, who leads the Civil Contract party, will also have meetings with other parliamentary factions in next few hours.
To note, Serzh Sargsyan stepped down as the country’s prime minister on April 23 after thousands of people led by MP Pashinyan took to the streets to protest his rule.
