Tsarukyan Alliance to vote for Pashinyan's candidacy as PM
Tsarukyan Alliance, the second largest parliamentary fraction at Armenia’s National Assembly, on Monday announced its decision to support the candidacy of protest leader Nikol Pashinyan, the head of Yelk opposition faction, as the country’s next prime minister.
“We discussed the current situation in the country with representatives of Tsarukyan Alliance,” Pashinyan said after today’s meeting with the faction MPs.
“Yes, they said they would vote in favor of my candidacy,” the lawmaker added.
Tsarukyan Alliance MP Naira Zohrabyan in her turn said the meeting addressed issues of mutual interest, stressing the need to unite the forces to deal with the difficult situation faced by the country.
The Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnakstutyun have also signaled its support for Nikol Pashinyan as prime minister of Armenia.
Earlier on Monday Yelk opposition faction officially nominated ‘people’s candidate’ Pashinyan as the country’s next prime minister.
The parliament is set to elect the prime minister at a special session scheduled for May 1.
