Armenia’s National Security Service thwarts drug smuggling attempt from Iran
The National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia has exposed an attempt of smuggling large quantities of narcotics from Iran to Armenia as part of its recently launched operations to combat illegal drug trafficking and smuggling.
The investigative operations revealed that two Iranian citizens identified as spouses had reached a preliminary agreement with another Iranian citizen residing in Armenia to smuggle large quantities of drugs to Armenia to illegally sell them in the country.
The couple transported a large quantity of opium, methamphetamine and heroin hidden in their clothes and bodies on board of the Tehran-Yerevan flight on April 29, the NSS said in a press release.
They were detained by NSS officers after leaving Zvartnots International Airport to meet with their customer in order to hand over the narcotics.
A criminal case has been launched into the incident.
All the three individuals involved in the drug smuggling attempt have been arrested. A prove is underway.
