Republican head: We made a unified decision
The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) has made a unified decision which will be announced during the prime minister’s election, the head of RPA faction Vahram Baghdasaryan told reporters.
“Our decision is unified which you will hear in the faction’s speech,” he said after the end of the Republican lawmakers’ meeting at the National Assembly, refusing to answer other questions.
Asked whether he has fears that if the RPA faction votes down Nikol Pashinyan’s candidacy as prime minister, the public tensions will further escalate, he said: “I have big fears in both cases. The most important thing for me is my country’s security.”
The Armenian parliament is holding a special sitting to debate the election of the new prime minister. The head of Yelk opposition fraction Nikol Pashinyan, who leads the “My Step” movement, is the only candidate nominated for the PM’s post.
Tsarukyan Alliance, the second largest parliamentary fraction at Armenia’s National Assembly, and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnakstutyun have voiced support for Pashinyan’s candidacy.
