
Armenia’s parliament fails to elect Pashinyan as PM
Armenia’s National Assembly failed to elect Nikol Pashinyan as the country’s new prime minister moments ago.
He received a total of 45 votes in favour and 56 against, with no abstentions.
Yelk opposition faction head Nikol Pashinyan was nominated as prime minister by his party on 1 May, being the sole candidate in the vote held during today’s special session of parliament.
According to the Constitution, if a prime minister is not elected, a new election is to be held seven days after the first vote. If a PM is not elected by the majority of the total number of MPs in one week, the National Assembly will be dissolved.
