Opposition lawmaker: We are still failing to try to find ways out
Elections are the key means to settle issues, Yelk (Way Out) opposition faction MP Aram Sargsyan said in his speech delivered at today’s special session of the National Assembly on the election of the new prime minister.
He attached importance to elections as a source for people to see themselves as the power holders, adding only when the official who has received people’s votes serves them that the sides admit they have won or lost in the fair elections, thus the political thinking develops and the world can accept that Armenia is a democratic nation.
“We need to think about these issues. We are not discussing the current situation, we are still failing to try to find ways out. We have gathered together at this hall and are trying to find the solution here, but we have forgotten that there is a way out also in the street,” he stressed.
Speaking about Nikol Pashinyan, the only candidate nominated for the prime minister’s post, the lawmaker said to be surprised by Pashinyan’s replies to the deputies’ questions.
“After my brother [late PM Vazgen Sargsyan], no prime minister has ever given such clear-cut and measured replies as you did,” he stressed.
The National Assembly is holding a special session to debate the election of Armenia’s new prime minister. The head of Yelk opposition faction Nikol Pashinyan, who leads the “My Step” movement, is the only candidate nominated for the post.
Tsarukyan Alliance, Armenia’s second largest parliamentary faction, and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnakstutyun have voiced their support for Pashinyan’s candidacy.
