ARF MP Aghvan Vardanyan steps down
The Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun faction MP Aghvan Vardanyan has submitted resignation, National Assembly Speaker Ara Babloyan said in a statement.
Vardanyan, the secretary of the ARF faction, said during the special session of the parliament on Monday that he would not vote in favour of Nikol Pashinyan, the sole candidate for prime minister, even though his party had voiced support for the opposition leader’s candidacy.
Vardanyan noted he was willing to quit as MP for stepping out of his party line.
On the same day, the ARF Supreme Council of Armenia issued a statement, noting that Vardanyan’s opinion is “his personal decision and is not in line with the official stance of the ARF”.
The ARF Armenia demanded Aghvan Vardanyan to step down from his parliamentary post.
