Armenia’s first deputy defense minister steps down
First Deputy Defense Minister of Armenia Artak Zakaryan on Tuesday submitted resignation, citing the political changes in the country.
“Due to changes in the political situation, I have decided to resign from the post of the First Deputy Defense Minister,” he said in a post on Facebook.
Zakaryan, a member of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), stated that the Defense Ministry should be formed by the team of new prime minister.
He noted that numerous reforms and innovations were introduced in the Armenian military at the defense minister’s initiative over the past year, aimed at modernization of the Armed Forces and strengthening of the defense capacities.
“I hope that the Defense Ministry's new leadership will continue the ongoing reforms taking them to their logical conclusion. I will be happy if they can do more than we managed to do in a short period of time,” he added.
Newly-elected Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said earlier that changes will be made in the country’s Cabinet structure.
