President Sarkissian signs decree to appoint Nikol Pashinyan as PM
President Armen Sarkissian of Armenia on Tuesday signed a decree to appoint Nikol Pashinyan as the Prime Minister of Armenia, the presidential office told Panorama.am.
The Armenian National Assembly voted 59 to 41 to elect the head of the Yelk opposition parliamentary faction, the leader of Armenian anti-government protests Nikol Pashinyan as Prime Minister.
He received support from his faction, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaksutyun (ARF-D) and the opposition Tsarukyan Alliance.
The Republican Party of Armenia which holds majority in the parliament and had earlier rejected Pashinyan’s candidacy, this time provided 10 plus 1 votes in support of the opposition leader in line with the political decision to make Pashinyan as Prime Minister.
