Youth theatre forum of CIS, Baltics and Georgia kicks off in Armenia’s capital
The Third Youth Theatre Forum of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, Baltic states and Georgia kicked off today in the Armenian capital, Yerevan, promising to open up new opportunities for young theatre workers, Hakob Ghazanchyan, Chairman of Armenia's Union of Theatre Workers, told a news conference today.
According to him, the forum running until 21 May aims at helping young theatre workers from different countries to establish contacts with each other, which will contribute to creating a universal youth theatre platform and developing a close cooperation between young art workers.
“This forum is unique and important in a sense that it brings together young artists from the post-Soviet countries,” he said.
“The exhibition of the [works of] young script writers will launch tomorrow. Master classes and a theatre festival are also on the agenda.”
The event program features one performance from each country selected by the expert group and staged over the past two years. The performances will be staged at Yerevan’s leading theatres.
The winning performance will be qualified for the Chekhov International Theatre Festival in Moscow, Russia.
General Director of the Chekhov International Theatre Festival and President of the International Confederation of Theatre Unions, Valery Shadrin, in attendance of the press conference, said he was happy to be in Armenia.
“This event is important not only for Armenia and the participating states, but also for the entire theatre world,” he said.
