Chess: 3 Armenian players taking part in World Youth Stars champ in Russia
The World Youth Stars international chess tournament has kicked off in the Russian town of Kirishi, in participation of three Armenian chess players – GM Aram Hakobyan, IM Shant Sargsyan and FIDE Master Mamikon Gharibyan.
GM Kirill Shevchenko of Ukraine is number one in the championship’s rating, followed by Aram Hakobyan, the Chess Federation of Armenia told Panorama.am.
At Round 1 of the tournament held on Tuesday, Shevchenko and Hakobyan faced each other in a tense competition, with the match ending in a draw.
Shant Sargsyan also drew his game at the round, while Mamikon Gharibyan suffered a defeat.
The second round of the tournament is scheduled for Wednesday.
