Armenia played an important role in EAEU-Iran deal, analyst says
Each of the parties have tried to get the most from the temporary agreement to establish a free trade zone between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Iran, expert in Iran Armen Israyelyan told Panorama.am.
“Armenia had an important role in signing the provisional agreement, considering its close ties with Iran. This has been a long-term process that ultimately came into life. I thnik in case of its full implementation, the agreement will provide new opportunities for Armenia to step up trade with the neighboring country and encourage the country’s policy in the sphere of multilateral cooperation,” Israyelyan noted.
As an example, the analyst pointed to the free economic zone of Meghri, in southern Armenia and the agreement on the use of Meghri-Norduz border crossing.
“Those projects are aimed at expanding the cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Union,” Israyelyan said.
To remind, Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) signed a provisional pact on May 17 to create a free trade zone.
