Armenia determined to not allow positional changes at any section of border – MFA spox
Armenia is determined to not allow positional changes at any section of its state border, as signalled by the recent visit of the Armenian defense and foreign ministers to the Nakhichevan section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border, Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Tigran Balayan told a briefing on Tuesday.
He recalled the Armenian Defense Ministry had already issued clarifications on this visit to the Nakhichevan section.
“Azerbaijan is carrying out certain works at the Nakhichevan section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border that pose a direct threat to the Armenian positions,” he said.
“We have repeatedly warned both the Azerbaijani side and the [OSCE Minsk Group] mediators that such works escalate the situation and can lead to undesirable losses,” he said.
The official noted that the recent death of an Azerbaijani soldier reported at the Nakhichevan section could have been a result of abnormal interpersonal relations at the Azerbaijan military, and not due to Armenian shooting, as Baku claims.
He stressed Armenia has a clear-cut position, and the recent visit of the ministers to the border section issued a strong message that “we shall not allow positional changes at any section.”
Asked whether the CSTO has been informed about Azerbaijan’s actions, Balayan said: “Our partners are informed of Azerbaijan’s actions. We inform them on different platforms, meantime noting that [those actions] can lead to tensions. It is our constant work.”
