Chief military inspector: Heroic May battles mark beginning of Armenia’s victories
Heroic May battles of 1918 during which the Armenian forces managed to defeat the Turkish army and stop its invasion of Transcaucasia mark only the beginning of the Armenian people’s victories, Chief Military Inspector Movses Hakobyan told reporters on Monday at Sardarapat Memorial which is hosting today celebrations marking the centennial of the First Republic and May battles.
Hakobyan, who served as Chief of General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces before taking the new position, stressed Armenia ‘is obliged’ to only celebrate victories from now on.
Commenting on his appointment as Chief Militray Inspector, he said ‘it is an honor’ to assume any office that gives an opportunity to serve the country.
He also spoke about the appointment of Mayor General Artak Davtyan as the new Chief of General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces. “He is an experienced officer, I believe everything will be fine,” he said.
Movses Hakobyan was relieved of his duties as the Armenian army chief on 24 May to be named the country’s Chief Military Inspector.
