CoE chief highly appreciates Armenian ombudsman’s activities during recent events
Armenia’s Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) Arman Tatoyan on Monday conducted a working meeting with Council of Europe (CoE) Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland in Strasbourg, France to discuss the ombudsman’s work and the evaluation of political developments unfolded in Armenia in April-May.
The meeting focused on the human rights defender’s activities regarding the protection of peaceful protesters’ rights, discussion and assessment of the complaints about the police actions in that period, etc.
The European official highly appreciated Tatoyan’s work during that time, especially stressing its importance in terms of guaranteeing the citizens’ rights, the ombudsman’s office said in a statement.
The Armenian ombudsman noted that the CoE secretary general’s positions over ensuring human rights and rule of law in those days were of paramount importance.
The officials also touched upon the existing priorities of human rights, stressing the need to deepen the further cooperation with the CoE structures and programs.
