Armenian, Georgian PMs make joint statement after private talks
Led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the Armenian government delegation arrived today in Georgia on an official visit.
Georgian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs Mikheil Janelidze welcomed the Armenian PM at the Tbilisi International Airport, the prime minister’s official website reported.
Pashinyan and his delegation headed for the Office of Georgian Government where he held a tête-à-tête with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, followed by the two delegations’ expanded meeting.
The two prime ministers made a joint statement for the press following the face-to-face meeting.
Mr Kvirikashvili qualified as 'symbolic' the fact that the Armenian prime minister’s first visit coincides with the celebrations of the centennial of the Armenian and Georgian Republics.
He said the private meeting with the Armenian PM addressed the key directions of bilateral cooperation, the issue of developing trade relations, as well as issues related to transport, energy, tourism, culture and education.
“Armenia's stability and democratic development are of paramount importance to Georgia, therefore we were keeping a close watch on the recent developments in friendly Armenia, when the Armenian people showed the whole world a unique example of integrity and commitment to democratic principles,” he said.
Giorgi Kvirikashvili reiterated his country’s commitment to the further effective cooperation with Armenia.
Nikol Pashinyan, for his part, said it was a great honor for him to arrive in Georgia as his first official visit.
