Mayor and deputy mayor of Masis town arrested
Five persons, including the mayor and deputy mayor of Masis - a municipal community 9 km southwest of Yerevan - have been arrested. As Sona Truzyan, Adviser to the head of the Investigative Committee informed, the arrests came in the scope on the criminal case launched over the circumstances of beating peaceful protesters in April.
To remind, on April 22, 2018 during the Armenian protests, a group of people, some of them masked, assaulted the citizens who were protesting in Erebuni district in Yerevan and used violence against them with stones, blackjacks and electric shock devices. The footage of the attacked was widely circulated on social media, prompting law enforcement to launch a criminal case.
The investigative Committee earlier reported that in the framework of the criminal case searches were conducted in the flats of a number of people. As a result, weapon and ammunition, wooden blackjack were found and confiscated. Forensic ballistic examination was commissioned. It is checked whether there is a permission to keep the weapon found, notes were sent to competent bodies.
