Government program contains provision for snap parliamentary elections
The government program of the new Armenian new cabinet contains provision about the necessity of holding snap parliamentary elections.
The document that would be debated at Armenia’s National Assembly at the extraordinary sitting set on June 7, says after the revolution in Armenia in April-May 2018, it has become evident the National Assembly of the sixth convocation does not reflect the actual political sentiments and preferences of the people of Armenia as well as the actual balance of political forces.
“This reality brings forth an indisputable need for holding snap parliamentary elections,” the document says, adding the elections should be held within one year at the least.
With this respect, the government highlights the organization of free, fair, transparent and democratic elections. As one precondition for holding such elections, the documents points to significant reforms in the Electoral Code and the electoral system of the country.
